Quirpon Island, Newfoundland Artist Statement I consider Canada to be my subject. I have a romantic notion of myself exploring the Canadian landscape, one province at a time, paint box in hand and a palette full of juicy oils. In January of this year we adopted a wonderful dog and walk him daily on the trails near our home. I am in awe of the beauty we encounter. I appreciate the subtle changes from day to day. The intimacy of this daily routine has become a visual aid to my work. I see with a softer eye and appreciate the nuances with more insight. The colours of the day are in my mind. In order to stay engaged and present in the process, I work out the composition without delay, and problem solve as I go. Looking at the relationship between representational symbols placed in abstract settings is an ongoing study for me. Also, I am interested in how the addition of depth and perspective changes the experience for the viewer. I am learning to embrace and respect my use of colour and how colour and brush stroke can be used to describe shape. I have been showing my work annually since 1999. I am a member of the Lambeth Art Association and am represented by several galleries across Ontario including Toronto and Ottawa. I am married with three grown children and live in Delaware with my husband Rick, our new dog Dawson and three cats. My hope as an artist is that you will be able to see and feel in my paintings, some of what I experience in life.
